Villa la Contessina was our highlight of our month long trip! We rented the entire villa and when we arrived we were greeted by Anastasia and her mother who had prepared an amazing Italian dinner for all of us! I had read all the reviews and looked at all the pictures and just hoped I had found a good spot for our large group but I never imagined it would be as outstanding as it was; the most lovely and helpful host, the best location in Sorrento, and a beautiful villa and garden to relax. Sorrento is one of my favorite towns in Italy to vacation and we will never stay anywhere else. Honestly, if you ever have a chance to stay there DO, you will fall in love with it too!
stayed in this hotel with my mother for 4 nights in july 2012 and we had an amazing experience. The lodging itself was very charming and spotless. The rooms were clean and cozy and the owner was very sweet and helpful. The location was fantastic! Right in the heart of sorrento! It was in easy walking distance from the train station, which allowed us to visit Pompei and Naples. It was also close to the port, where we were able to board a ferry to Capri. I would stay here again without hesitation and would highly recommend it to others.
I can't believe how long it's taken me to write this! My family and I (eight of us in all) stayed at Villa La Contessina over Christmas this year (2012). The location in Sorrento could not have been more perfect. It was centrally located in town and allowed us to walk to all of the historic and shopping areas. It was also a perfect location to get to the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Naples and Pompei for day trips. The house was absolutely beautiful and the four bedrooms with individual bathrooms was perfect for two couples and our children. The kitchen was very well equipped and allowed us to cook our meals several nights during our stay when we weren't eating out at the wonderful local restaurants. The town itself was perfect for a laid back yet fun vacation during the holidays. We even felt comfortable enough for our teenage children to venture out on their own during the evenings! Contrary to locations in the US, we had multiple choices for dinner and lunch even on Christmas eve and day. I would love to come back when the weather is warm and enjoy the beautiful beaches in this part of Italy. As it was, even in December the weather was very nice and we were able to sit on the beautiful veranda and eat oranges picked from the garden for breakfast. Now for the best part.....Anastasia and her mother were incredible. Anastasia speaks English very well and helped us navigate our way from the US to Rome and then to the Villa. She sent us information ahead of time about where to eat and locations to visit to help plan our trip. When we arrived, after a very long plane trip and an exhausting drive from Rome (holiday traffic), she and her mother were at the Villa with an Italian buffet and a much needed chilled Limoncello. Anastasia's mother had also decorated the house for Christmas and made us feel right at home. I hated to leave and I can't wait to go back. Thank you, thank you Anastasia! I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Villa La Contessina again.
What a beautiful villa we were lucky to find in Sorrento. This villa had four bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. Three bathrooms had walk-in showers, and one bathroom had a jacuzzi tub. Two of the bedrooms had doors leading out to a lovely terrace. An elevator took you up to the second floor where the bedrooms were located. The main level of the villa had an eat-in kitchen, fully equipped, a dining room, living room with flat screen TV, a bathroom with another walk-in shower, and outside a beautiful huge garden area with louge chairs and a big outside dining table under a portico. The location of the villa was ideal, on a quiet street, but within a 1 minute walk to the Piazza San Antonnino, and a 3 minute walk to the larger Piazza Tasso. All the shops and restaurants are within a 5 minute walk. It was also that close to the Villa Comunale with magnificent views of the Marina Piccolo and an elevator down to the ferry to Capri and Naples, and the beach which was clean and lovely with a great restaurant at Leonelli's. The owner, Anastasia, was wonderful and accommodating, and responded immediately whenever we needed anything, and her wonderful mother prepared such a beautiful spread of food to serve us when we arrived. We were so surprised and so grateful after our long flight, and the food was absolutely delicious. We were 4 couples and we all felt we could not have found a better place to spend our two weeks in Sorrento. We would highly recommend the Villa La Contessina and will definitely use it again and again if we go back to Sorrento.
We loved this beautiful villa high up on the cliff overlooking the Bay of Naples. It was the perfect size for our two families, a group of 7 traveling together. We loved it so much that we wished we could have spent more time in it enjoying the very private and peaceful garden just steps away from "downtown" Sorrento. We were there in March so it was too windy and chilly to dine al fresco which would have been a real treat, but gives us an excuse to have to go back! Anastasia could not have been more accommodating providing us with maps and lists of recommended restaurants. Don't be afraid to eat in either. After a long day touring a little pasta in the perfectly appointed kitchen can really hit the spot. One word of caution about the in-room safes. They can be tricky to operate and Anastasia had to help us rescue the stuff we put in them. Follow her instructions carefully during her orientation tour! One final word of note, we were a group of 7 who were gone all day and only home in the evenings. We turned off all electricity (even the heat) while we were away and only heated the upstairs at night when needed. We did a total of about 4 loads of laundry while we were there and incurred an extra charge of 30 Euro for electricity (Approximately $40 US) on a 4 day stay. I only say this as a point of reference because we had no idea how much electricity 150 kwh would be when we checked in and that is what is included in the contract. We would definitely recommend the Villa La Contessina. I can still hear those beautiful church bells ringing in the new day!
My family and friends recently stayed at Villa La Contessina in Sorrento from May 5-12, 2012. We had seen pictures of the villa prior to our trip and when we arrived there it was every bit like the pictures and more. It was located right in downtown Sorrento yet we had complete privacy because of the gated entrance and the tall bushes that blocked out anyone who passed by from looking into the garden and patio area. Every morning we walked to the corner shop and had our cafe latte or cappucino. We could walk to any other part of town as well and being close to the waterfront it was easy for us to enjoy lunch there or hop one of the boats over to the isle of Capri. Anastasia the owner could not have been nicer. Although we weren't expecting anything when we arrived Anastasia put out a beautiful lunch for us at her own expense and gave us a very warm welcome. With its location and amenities I would wholeheartedly recommend this villa to anyone looking to plan a trip to Sorrento. It was THE PERFECT SPOT!
Anastasia is charming, she was very helpful with all our requests, prompt and a pleasure to deal with. We had a lovely room bright and clean, just what we needed. Beautiful grounds.
Everything about Villa la Contessina exceeded our expectations. The location is superb. It is a short stroll to Piazza Tasso, shopping and everything else Sorrento has to offer. Two of the owners, Anastasia and her Mother welcomed us with 3 varities of limoncello and fresh local pastries. We instantly felt like part of the family. Anastasia was so helpful answering all of our questions and even arranged a tour of the Amalfi coast for our group of six. The pictures do not do it justice, it is absolutely beautiful. All 4 bedrooms are almost exactly the same (bed, size, closet TV etc) except that 2 of them have balconies and one has a bathtub. But I would have been comfortable in any one of them. We enjoyed having our own kitchen and were able to save money by cooking for ourselves. The perfect weather allowed us to eat outside and enjoy the serenity of the large private courtyard/garden. The living and dining room accommodated our group with room to spare. If you read "Rick Steves" travel guides -- his walking tour of Sorrento is in the same neighborhood a Villa La Contessina.
First of all, to say this villa is truly perfect is not doing it enough justice! Even before we arrived, we had constant contact with Anastasia who helped us with everything from directions to hooking us up with the Foreigner's Club for our rehearsal dinner! They even gave us an amazing deal since Anastasia is their friend. And it is LITERALLY across the street (but you can't hear any of the noise at night which is wonderful). We were greeted upon arrival by Anastasia and her mother who were waiting their with limoncello, italian cookies and champagne! Such a wonderful greeting after a long night of flying. Anastasia showed us around the gorgeous villa and we were even more pleasantly surprised! The rooms were nice and cool, big closets and each had their own bathroom. There was even an elevator so you don't have to walk up stairs if you don't want. The views were breathtaking and the yard and outdoor seating area became our favorite places! I was married in Sorrento so we had family and friends staying everywhere but the villa's location and large outdoor seating was a great meetup spot for everyone as we left for our various tours and dinners. I even got ready there on my wedding day with all of my bridesmaids and it was just perfect....not to mention the amazing pictures we took outside in the gorgeous garden! The location CAN NOT BE BEAT! I have been to Sorrento numerous times and this is by far the best location. Only two blocks from the main square but in this residential area where you don't hear any of the town noise! You can walk to literally everything from the train station to the bus stops to the port to the marina grande. There are some delicious and inexpensive restaurants nearby and The Corner Shop down the street which has the best limoncello in town and the cutest little owner who will give you free tastes! The villa was immaculate, bright, and airy. It was July so we used the AC and even though the villa is big, it kept it extremely cool. The washer and dryer in the back room were a pleasant surprise so it was nice to be able to do our laundry as well. Additionally, there are four rooms within the villa and each room has its own bathroom (they are all upstairs). Then in the downstairs, there is another bathroom as well which people would use during the day so that they didn't have to go through other people's rooms. Also, there is another room that is stand alone which is out by the garden. It is a very adorable room with it's own bathroom too in case someone wanted something more private. The villa had wifi which worked perfectly as well. There are not enough good things I can say about this place. It is seriously a perfect secret hidden gem and we truly felt like we had a home in Sorrento. We also saved alot of money as we used the kitchen alot for cooking and drinking. I would recommend this place as a B&B to people who are traveling, to families traveling together, to friends to people with children (as the yard is all enclosed and can be a nice place for kids to run around). I will definately return!!!
Anastasia could not have been more friendly and welcoming! She greeted us with Limoncello, it was exactly what we needed after a long, not so great, day of travel. The grounds are absolutely stunning. We were on our honeymoon and the view from the room couldn't have been anymore romantic! Our room was spacious, clean, and very relaxing. We had a private bathroom. The location was perfect, right by the center of town and just a short train ride to Pompeii. Anastasia also recommended her favorite restaurants and gave us directions to them. We loved all of her suggestions! We cannot wait to go back!
In 2006 I traveled through the Italian cities of Rome and Florence. I was blown away by Florence and I thought it was one of the most amazing cities that I had experienced. That all changed when I was invited to a wedding the first week of July 2011 in Sorrento, Italy. I flew in to Naples and I took a car service from the airport to Villa La Contessina. I was instantly captured by the beauty of Sorrento and the surrounding areas as we drove towards it from the Bay Of Naples. The closer we got to Sorrento the more narrow the streets became....It felt more and more like a small town. A very beautiful, vibrant, and busy small town. The car dropped me off at the front gate/main entrance of Villa La Contessina. I was met by Mrs. Del Vecchio and her daughter, Anastasia. As we walked through the gates I entered a very beautiful floral garden and a lush landscaped property. They brought me to a huge living room and dining room and offered me all kinds of treats, limoncello and local tourist advice. I arrived solo a day early before the family & wedding party. In 24 hours the Villa would be full of people and celebrations. So, it was just me. I was absolutely blown away by the reception and warm welcome I received when I arrived. After a taste of really good snacks and a shot of some local limoncello (I highly recommend it!) I was given a tour of the Villa by Anastasia. If and when we had any questions about the Villa or surrounding areas, Anastasia was always very helpful! She toured me through the Villa and showed me all of its amenities. It is absolutely immaculate, well kept and it's very large. Nice sized kitchen supplied with everything you will need to cook for, and serve a family. All of the rooms are upstairs and each one has its own unique color scheme, and beautiful tile layouts. Each one inviting and comfortable. I slept very well there. All have bathrooms and there is an additional full bathroom down stairs. A couple of rooms share a balcony with a beautiful view and a comfortable place to hang out outside with a glass of wine. Just to the left of the balcony is the very beautiful, Complesso conventuale di San Francesco. You will definitely hear church bells in the morning! Like I said I was there for a wedding and we had about 12 people staying at the Villa for a week. We were all very comfortable and enjoyed the properties landscape, size of the outdoor seating area and the variety of flowers and trees. It's very beautiful...I took a lot of photos just of the property! I shot a lot of photography of the wedding party and guests all around the interior and exterior of the Villa as well. It's a perfect location for weddings and/or photo shoots. Oh, there's also a very comfortable hammock hanging between two huge palm trees. I fell asleep there after another shot of limoncello! The location of the Villa is perfect. Sorrento is just such an amazing little city...and the Villa is pretty much right in the middle. All kinds of restaurants, sites & sounds, and shops are within walking distance. About a 2 minute walk from the Villa is a scenic viewing location looking over The Bay Of Naples from atop a cliff. A short walk down a cobble stone switchback will take you to a nice area for a swim in the Tyrrhenian Sea. For some of the dinners we would take a stunning 10 minute walk to the Marina Grande. You will discover amazing sunsets and really good food & wine at Marina Grande! If you walk the other direction from the Villa you will enter the main Piazza Torquato Tasso and center or Sorrento. This is a bustling little city with a great nightlife and we found everything we were looking for! Sorrento's Marina, bus & train stations are also a short walk away from the Villa. You will find plenty options for ferries & transportation going to and from Capri, Ischia, Positano and surrounding areas. I highly recommend Villa La Contessina if you're planing a trip to Sorrento. It was so comfortable I didn't want to leave. I will definitely stay there again in the near future. It was a great Italian location to visit and a perfect place to stay and be able to experience so much!! The most memorable thing about my trip were all of the Italians we met. Everyone we met were so very generous and always showed us a great time and answered so many of our questions. We met so many local shop & restaurant owners and their families. Everyone just made us feel so comfortable and when we left it felt like we were leaving good friends and saying goodbye. I still keep in touch with a lot of people I met there and I ship Sorrento's local limoncello and wine to where ever I am in the world! Thank you Villa La Contessina!!!
Our family of eight spent a fantastic week at Villa La Contessina. Everything was fantastic. I would rate the location, privacy, cleanliness, spaciousness, convenience, and helpfulness of the owner as superior. It is one block from the shopping district, has two wonderful cafes on the next corner, and a souvenir shop with two of the nicest people as owners that I\'ve ever met while traveling. The location is perfect for traveling the Almafi coast as well as easy train access to Pompeii and Vesuvius. We also traveled to Paestum, which is off the beaten path but very impressive. No pool or spa, but there is too much to do in the area--you don\'t need them.
